Halcyon Selects: Bear in Heaven – Sinful Nature
Bear In Heaven is another great band based in Brooklyn, a city which traditionally gives us some of the best contemporary bands of the recent years. Their sound incorporates elements from psychedelic, electronic, experimental and krautrock and their official debut album “Red Boom of The Bloom” was released in 2007. Then, two years later came a sophomore critically acclaimed album titled “Beast Rest Forth Month”, which listed them in the elite of other bands similar to their sound, such as School of Seven Bells. This year, they come back with an equally very good album named “I Love You, It’s Cool” fulfilling the audience’s great expectations. First single was “The Reflection of You”, while yesterday a new music video was published for their second single titled “Sinful Nature”, directed by Yoonha Park, a former Pitchfork Media producer and editor. This brilliant music video unexpectedly combines late-80s iconography, with CGI adaptations of characters from the movie Pretty Woman and colorful neon backgrounds, giving a visual result which perfectly fits the song. Their new LP “I Love You, It’s Cool” is out now via Hometapes.

Halcyon Selects: St. Lucia – Before the Dive
St. Lucia is a new Brooklyn-based band of Jean-Philippe Grobler, whom I already have mentioned many months ago, introducing to you one of their first –almost unknown back then- wonderful single “All Eyes On You”, believing in their talent and waiting for them to shine during this year. Something they actually managed, a couple of months later by releasing their first proper self-titled EP via Neon Gold Records, with the single “We Got It Wrong” winning very good reviews and its beautiful video being hosted by the best music blogs and websites around the world. After that, their fame continued to rise thanks to articles on big music magazines such as NME and Billboard, and an invitation to participate in the famous SXSW Festival, giving a very successful gig, considered by many as one of this year’s best, while The Shins also called them to be the opening act in their recent concert in Terminal 5 of New York. Next single from the EP is one more great track, titled “Before the Dive”, which was selected as the opening track of the brand new compilation of Kitsuné named “Kitsuné America”, dedicated to the best new bands from the USA! The music video of the song premiered yesterday on The Guardian’s website and it is co-directed by Elliot Sellers and Carlos Lopez Estrada. For those who wish to download their new remixed EP for free, you can do so in exchange for a “like” on their official Facebook fan page.

I love art, taking photos and spiritual works such as yoga, meditation and quantum…What you think you become…This is my philosophy.
What’s your favorite part about conceptualizing a design?
I love the beginning, like when you come up with something and you know that you get it…like the process of falling in love…You have the heart beat, excitement…
Who are some of your favorite designers and what are some of your favorite clothing stores/blogs/websites/magazines/books?

Halcyon Selects: Blood Orange – Champagne Coast
For those who haven’t discovered him yet, Blood Orange (Devonté Hynes) is a british composer, songwriter and producer who released last summer one of the best debut albums of 2011. At first he wrote songs for various famous artists such as Florence + The Machine, The Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx and Theophilus London, but last year Blood Orange released his first personal full-length, Coastal Grooves, an album which still keeps the buzz around it. After three very good singles, Dinner, Sutphin Boulevard and Forget It, he releases his forth single Champagne Coast, while a few days ago a new music video for it was published on the website of New York Times. Famous stylist Halley Wollens (M.I.A., Rye Rye, Sleigh Bells, MNDR), does the direction and styling, while Andreas “Nout” Schmidt did the animation for the video. A very smart combination of retro kitsch aesthetics with Second Life-type graphics and collages of images from old interior design magazines and real teenager’s walls they found on flickr, results to the most aesthetically original music video we’ve seen in a long time, while the décor in each girl’s bedroom represents a list of artists work admired by Blood Orange himself such as Ed Ruscha, Morris Louis, Sonia Delaunay and Helen Frankenthaler.

The Turner Prize is a contemporary art award that was set up in 1984 to celebrate new developments in contemporary art. It is awarded each year to a British artist for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the twelve months preceding. Nominations are invited each year and the prize is judged by an independent jury that changes annually. The four shortlisted artists present works in a show normally held at Tate Britain before the winner is announced in December. Artists are not judged on their show at Tate. The decision is based on the work for which they were nominated.
The four artists that have been nominated for this year Turner prize are: video installation artist Elizabeth Price, fine art draftsman Paul Noble, filmmaker Luke Fowler and performance artist Spartacus Chetwynd. All four have already began the preparation work for the Turner prize exhibition, which opens at Tate Britain on 2 October, 2012. The winner will be announced on 3 December, 2012.

Flippinradio O Three: Summer is Near
Summer is near, the sun’s appearances are more frequent and the only thing we want to do is listen to some summer tunes. Thus, we found the opportunity to present an exclusive mixtape Victor Ferreira, aka Sun Glitters, created for Flippinradio’s listeners. The mixtape was generated in response to the artist’s appearance at Six Dogs a couple of days ago and the only thought in our mind is that S.G has so much to offer to the chillwave scene.
Back in 2010 Labyrinth Ear had released their “Oak” EP and gained critical acclaim. Now “Apparitions” EP is out and available for streaming via Bandcamp. We’ve chosen “Humble Bones” video and waiting for more information about their upcoming appearance in Athens.
